Part of my business is offering catering for weddings; be it Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch or food for evening guests, Little Van Rouge can cater for all.
I’ve noticed the trend for weddings that have an interesting festival feel about them. Little Van Rouge can arrive at your wedding in the form of an outside bar, Crepe van, or breakfast caterer for clients who are getting married at an overnight venue or hotel. Family and friends and sleeping guests can enjoy that heavenly bacon bap with a hot cup of tea the next morning.
Knowle Manor which is situated in the country and is ideal for that country wedding. The venue is in Somerset if your looking for that rural setting, it has beautifully tendered gardens and the house itself is stunning. Ruth who runs and owns this beautiful house with her Husband Kevin is great to work with and I would recommend this House to any bride for that special day. Wedding guests stay 2 to 3 days celebrating with their family and friends, adding catering where and when they need it, and that’s where we come in and help with your big day plans. We are very accommodating .
We have catered for a number of weddings as far as the Cotswolds; it works well and gives the wedding a festival / vintage feel as well as a memorable day for the bride and groom. Also it’s a great photo opportunity for your guests. We have provided breakfast / Brunch / Lunch / Evening Food for guests at many weddings. The guests love Little Van Rouge and it takes the pressure off the bride and groom so not to have to worry about people going hungry. The tea and fresh bean-to-cup Coffee we provide is always well appreciated the morning after the wedding !!!
I have a number of bookings for weddings this year with the same requests to feed their wedding guests and am happy to offer a breakfast that turns into brunch the day after the wedding, light Lunch or crepes for your evening guests. Having Little Van Rouge cater can make a nice gathering after the big day and everyone appreciates the bride and groom have put thought providing for them. It’s also a great surprise for the guests to see a 60 year old Citroen H van roll up and serve food for them. She is well photographed and much admired by those who love the fact she has been loving restored and brought back to work after being left to rot.
If your thinking of hiring a big house for your wedding day or even a field as I have a silent generator then we are happy to discuss your requirements with you and make your day extra special as Little Van Rouge always brings a smile to guests faces and will be remembered long after your day.
Having restored my H van to a beautiful vintage catering van to use as a business for festivals, weddings and events, it has given me a new way of life and it’s one I love.
Nothing can prepare you for the experience of driving your H van (sometimes mistaken for a HY van). Approaching from the left side the first thing you’ll notice is the brilliant design of this amazing van. You will then open the door, which opens backwards to the way we know it. Once you have opened this lightweight door you’ll step up onto the side plate to get in with an outside handle to help you step up. You’ll clock the wonderful original seat if you are as lucky as me to have the original one, which is made up on a frame and then sprung on springs for the padded seat cover to sit on; surprisingly it is very comfortable to sit in. Sadly I had to buy a new seat cover for the passengers side but still looks good with the original frame and springs. You become very focused on keeping as much of your van original. The split screen is also another delightful design of the 1956 H Van.
Now you have embarked and find a very limited dashboard in front of you, as well as a gear stick and handbrake, which are a very simple, old fashioned design. It has a strange way to start this vehicle but I won’t give it away here as I am keen on keeping her!!!
The van only have 3 gears and reversing is a bit of a wake up call, as to drive you have to concentrate on your terrain. This van was built for short journeys to move light goods around towns 60 years ago, definitely not the modern day trips I do in her to get to festivals and weddings.
If it’s a long journey I tend to drive for an hour before stopping to cool the engine as well as top up the water. Top speed is 45 mph!!! A lot of vintage vans don’t drive so are taken to events on a trailer, always a talking point to those who appreciate the workings of this amazing van.We always get a crowd looking at her in the service station and have photos taken which is fun to be centre of attention.
On arriving to the event I am attending you typically are in a good mood, as you’ll find out if your thinking of purchasing a H van, people wave at you or just smile as our Little Van Rouge makes people happy. She is a very well photographed vintage vehicle at all weddings and festivals.
Setting up for the day takes an hour and can be heavy going with gas bottles as well as tables and chairs to get into place. I have the setting up down to a fine art now, having done a far few events with her. I love going to new places and introducing her to a new fan base as we tend to get invited to new events while at a current event. Once she has been seen she isn’t forgotten and is very attractive to any gathering, she would certainly give your guests at a wedding memories to treasure.
Our “Little Van Rouge” is 60 years old this year but sadly not all those years have been glorious. As you can see from the photos she must have been forgotten and left somewhere to rot. To overcome the numerous obstacles for such a van renovation it takes great dedication; it took 2 years (work began in 2013) and a lot of finding parts, people with the right know -how, and team work. I was amazingly lucky to have Mark Harding only an hour down the road in Devon; he is a specialist in Citroen Traction engines and works all over the UK. Despite the faults and obstacles I still remain truly in love with my H van. So what is the appeal ? Once out on the road you’ll soon learn you’re not on your own as people look and smile; I get thumbs up and constant waves. Little Van Rouge is a real talking point wherever you stop, so there is never a dull moment. The design of the Citroen H van (sometimes mistaken for the HY van) is appealing to many, and people appreciate the hard work and passion you have put into getting the van back to her former self.
How to Celebrate 60 Years? We will be out and about at a number of events, private parties and festivals this year showing her off after having a touch up in the workshop. But for me, taking her for a road trip with my friend who has also got a Citroen van, and admiring her in the sunshine on Exmoor is all I need!
Welcome to our Little Van Rouge blog. Here you can follow the adventures of our vintage catering van, as we go from event to event. We hope you like it!
